“Fifteen Long Years”, celebra os 15 anos de vida do trio de Braga num vinil de 7 polegadas. Trata-se de uma edição de colecionador, limitada e numerada, com um cartão para download digital, para que possam ouvir a música em qualquer lado.
“Fifteen Long Years”, it’s a celebration record, and the first in Vinil format. Since it marks the band’s 15th birthday, it’s a collectors edition, limited and numbered, with a digital download card, so you can listen to the music anywhere.
It will be released in March 16th with the first show of the “Fifteen Long Years Tour”, but, since it’s a collectors edition, it will also be available here.

“Fifteen Long Years”, é o primeiro single e a primeira música do EP. É um shuffle, largamente influenciado por Jimi Hendrix, um dos ídolos de Budda . Fala sobre a forma como Budda entende a sua missão como Bluesman, a a obrigação em inovar o mundo do Blues. Sendo brancos, portugueses e europeus, os Budda Power Blues não se encaixam no estereótipo de uma banda de Blues. Mas o Blues há muito que transcendeu as fronteiras de Chicago e Mississipi, tornando-se num estilo universal. Por isso Budda encara como missão renovar o blues trazendo-o para o século XXI, fazendo algo pessoal e que só ele pode fazer, em detrimento de tentar imitar os seus ídolos do blues. Até porque todos eles o fizeram também. Quando Muddy Waters se muda para Chicago e usa uma guitarra eléctrica, electrifica a a harmónica, criou um novo momento para o blues que até então era maioritariamente acústico. Quando Albert King introduz elementos do funk e do soul, traz algo de novo para o Blues. Quando Jimi Hendrix toca o seu Blues usando guitarras com fuzz e a forma agressiva de tocar, estava a inovar.
“Fifteen Long Years”, is the first single and first song and it is a shuffle, heavily influenced by the great Jimi Hendrix, one of Budda’s idols. It talks about the way Budda perceives his mission as a Bluesman, and the obligation to innovate, and bring something new to the blues world. Being all white, and Portuguese, Budda Power Blues don’t fit in the stereotype of a blues band. But the blues has long crossed borders, and became universal. So Budda always states that his mission his to Innovate, as all his idols did. When Muddy Waters pick the electric guitar, and amplified the harmonica, he wasn’t being traditional, but he forever changed the face of the blues. When Albert King joined stay and introduced funk and soul grooves into his music, he was bringing something new to the table. When Jimi Hendrix played his blues, he was bringing the fuzzy guitars and heavy playing into the blues.
“Have Mercy” é a cara pesada do trio bracarense. Lenta, densa e agressiva, com um groove quase dançável, vem do mesmo universo que “One in a Million”, Gotta Do Something”, “God Helps”. Budda canta sobre a sua depressão, ansiedade e frustração passada. A depressão é a doença do século, que cresce cada vez mais silenciosamente dentro da nossa sociedade. “É só algo n atua cabeça”, mas que não é nada fácil de superar, e altamente assustador!!!
“Have Mercy” is the band’s grove and heavy face, coming from the same universe of “One in a Million”, Gotta Do Something”, “God Helps”. Budda sings his misery out, protesting against his depression and frustration. Depression is the new black, and more and more people are silently suffering from it. It’s “just” something in your head, but it doesn’t make it any easier to overcome it, and to be depressed is scary like hell!!!
“Take My Soul” esta é uma das músicas mais antigas de Budda, que chegou a integrar o primeiro disco de Budda Power Blues, e a ora recebe um novo arranjo para este disco especial. Escuro e misterioso, este blues menor com uma harmonia sofisticada, etéreo e ambiental, é também super tenso, culimando num intenso solo de dinâmica máxima, à Budda Power Blues.
“Take My Soul” one of Budda’s oldest songs, was in the band’s debut album and was now rearranged for this special record. A slow down blues with a heavy twist. Dark and mysterious, it is a slow minor blues with a rich harmony, ethereal and full of spaciousness. It’s also a very tense song, building up for Budda’s solo close to the end, where the band goes over the stop with dynamics.
“Blues is a Felling” é a faceta funk / groove de Budda Power Blues. Liricamente Budda aborda mais uma vez a temática da universalidade e transversalidade do blues. “Blues é um feelling, e no século XXI carregam todas as referências passadas e contemporâneas. Irónicamente Budda escolheu o tema menos tradicional para fazer esta afirmação.
“Blues is a Felling” is Budda Power Blues’s funk / blues side with a groovy bass and funky drums. Once again Budda explains that Blues is all about the feeling and not the notes. The band writes Blues from the XXI century, made in Portugal influenced by all the music in the world. Blues is a way of looking to the world, and it’s all about storytelling.
So, ironically, Budda choose this song to make that statement, dispite it isn’t a traditional Chicago or Mississipi blues.
